Whitmire Leads Election Results, Will move on to Run Off in December

By: Ryan Tejero

Just before the election on November 7, 2023, Houston Mayor candidate John Whitmire said, “Our team has been working tirelessly to earn your support. They know the importance of voting and making our voices heard through civic engagement. We have a great city but we have lots of housekeeping. If I’m fortunate enough to earn your vote as Houston’s next mayor, you’ll see a positive difference.”

The results of the election turned out Whitmire leads over other candidates but did not reach the majority of the votes. A run-off election is scheduled on December 9, 2023.

On the night after the election closed at 7:00PM, Whitmire said “I’m encouraged by tonight’s results. We are going to continue to campaign on improvements to public safety, infrastructure, city services, transparency in our city and our city finances. I’m looking forward to continuing to build a diverse coalition of Houstonians. As I’ve said before, no one’s gonna outwork me on this campaign. Let’s get to work!”

One Philippines Texas news was at the Marriott Marquis Houston during the Election Results Watch Party attended by local media on November 7, 2023. One Philippines Editor, Ryan Tejero, met with John Whitmire. He informed Whitmire that One Philippines will have him on the cover of the magazine for the November issue. Whitmire said, “I like that, please send me a copy of that!”
