As a son to the Publisher of One Philippines, Jay R Zausa had watche closely how his father, Bhong Zausa, built the newspaper, which is currently known as the last Filipino paper circulating in the State of Texas. The value of hardwork and dedication served as his guide while growing up.
When asked about how he starts his day, Jay R stated that “Waking up early and also using my time wisely is typical for me. Filtering out what is worth my time and what is not as well as to work smart, not hard is part of my routine.”
Jay R’s family is his inspiration. He was taught heavily on humility yet keeping his ambitions and choosing his priorities in life. He stated that “As a 2nd generation Filipino American. My parents came to the US with basically nothing. They weren’t the typical Filipino nurses. We didn’t have anything fancy/expensive growing up. Just enough to put a roof on our head and food on the table. Seeing their hardships on how they provide growing up inspired me to push and become better to be where and what I am today, thanks to them.”
Like any other young person, Jay R learned how to value his time and choosing the people that he wants to be surrounded with. He learned how to conduct himself while being out in the community or just with family and friends. He said, “One of my most favorite things to do is spending quality time with family and friends, as well as going on trips and trying new things. The kind of friends I have are mostly business owners, entrepreneurs, real estate investors as well as car friends/enthusiasts since one of my business consists of automotive. I believe in - who you hang out is who you will become - and I’ve been a bit of a mixture of those.”
There are many things that keep him going. He also shared some of his challenges. Jay R stated that “To be honest, I’m not too sure - If God says I wake up tomorrow then I’ll wake up. So, I’m sure that’s a blessing that keeps me going! One of my biggest challenges in life as a young person was being judged or being told - you can’t do it, or you’ll go nowhere. Maybe they say it with hate or jealousy, but it only strives to make me stronger. I played my cards right; I made my executions and proved them wrong. The moral of the story, prove them wrong.”
Just like his father, Jay R is an accomplished young man. He takes pride in being a successful business owner running multiple ventures as well as owning four real properties under the age of 30. His ultimate goal in life is “to become financially stable with passive income. I see myself as a good provider for my future family as well as working much less. I want to look back at all the hard work I’ve done and grateful for it!”
