16 Monumental Years of Partnering with Filipino Americans in Texas

One Philippines Texas News was founded on June 2008 in the City of Houston. The founder, Bhong Zausa was assisted by his son, Jay R Zausa in forming the newsmagazine with the hope to materialize a platform for the Filipino American community in the Lonestar State of Texas. Initially, the newsmagazine was packaged to bring entertainment news and publicity on events happening both in the Philippines and here in the United States, and to contribute to the development efforts back home in the Philippines.

Since its inception, One Philippines had sustained its media platform, and currently survived as the only Filipino American newsmagazine, in print and online in the State of Texas. Its print circulation is close to 15,000 copies and increasing. Its distribution reaches to major cities outside of Houston, which includes Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Lubbock, Fort Worth, Port Arthur, McAllen, Harlingen Beaumont, and many others. Currently, One Philippines Texas News has assigned field correspondents and reporters in the cities of Austin, Dallas, Lubbock, San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley.

One Philippines Texas News operates with a mission to create a more unified, solid, and strong Filipino American community in Texas. It aims at setting up the highest standards of advancing the Filipino American community’s positive impact and significant voice in the greater American society. It is also aimed at preserving its strong ties to the development efforts and humanitarian initiatives in the Philippines.

True to its mission, One Philippines Texas News organized a community event in Houston that embraces unity in diversity. Now in its 8th year, this annual event is a venue of cultural presentation, showcase of local talents, business promotion, food tasting, celebrity entertainment and an atmosphere paves the way to friendship and harmony in the community.

Back in the Philippines, One Philippines Texas News supports the underprivileged school children by supplying them with school supplies annually. This project is funded in part from the proceeds of fundraising events organized by One Philippines Texas News annually.

In 2023, no less than Texas State Governor Greg Abbott hailed the leaders of One Philippines Texas News for promoting the diverse interests of the Filipino American community in the State of Texas. In his words, he said “because of leaders like you, Texas is a state where Filipinos and Filipino Americans can be united through community education and opportunities that highlight shared culture and heritage. Also, the One Philippines Texas News helps to build the generation gap through education and building initiatives like the Fiesta Ko Sa Texas.”
